2008 Wendy's InvitationalThe AST Dew Tour Visits Portland For Its Third StopResults and standings from the third stop of the 2008 AST Dew Tour.
The 2008 AST Dew Tour is on the road again after concluding its third stop, the Wendy’s Invitational. Top athletes from the world of action sports landed in Portland, OR on September 11-14, and thrilled the crowds with nonstop action in the race for the Dew Cup. A New Threat?Among the surprises at the Wendy’s Invitational was the presence of a new group of challengers in the Skateboard Vert competition. Vert has been dominated in recent years by a small group of veterans: Bob Burnquist, Andy MacDonald and Bucky Lasek. This time, four riders, aged 20 and under, qualified for finals and let it be known that they are looking to take over. FMX...The Freestyle Motocross comp opened with a resounding welcome for local rider Beau Bamburg from Gresham, OR. But the enthusiastic crowd were also treated to the riding of Mike Mason, Nate Adams, Blake Williams and others who are turning out their best tricks in an attempt to win the Cup. The FMX competition won’t be decided until after the final stop in Orlando in October. Heated Battles...The action wouldn’t be as fun without some very heated battles that are going on for the lead. In BMX Park, Daniel Dhers is now in a good position to win his third Dew Cup but Mike Spinner is doing his best to claim the cup for himself. In BMX Vert, Chad Kagy and Jamie Bestwick are only separated by 15 points, and Bestwick seems as determined to get his fourth Dew Cup as Kagy is to stop him. Skateboard is the scene for some epic battles as well. Paul Rodriguez currently leads Ryan Sheckler by seven points. Sheckler is after his fourth Dew Cup and doesn’t seem content to hand it over without a fight. And, in Vert, Bucky Lasek is in the lead with 260 points to Bob Burnquist’s 245. But Pierre-Luc Gagnon, Andy MacDonald and Sandro Diaz aren’t sitting back waiting for them to claim the cup. AST Dew Tour...The AST Dew Tour, which debuted in 2005, is the largest multidiscipline action sports tour in the US. The tour consists of five stops across the country in which athletes earn cumulative points and vie for a share of the $2.5 million competitive purse, and an additional $1 million bonus pool. Each stop along the tour features skateboarding (park and vert), BMX (park, vert, and dirt) and freestyle motocross. At the end of the season the competitor who has accumulated the most points in each of the six disciplines are awarded the prestigious Dew Cup.
