ESPN’s X Games debuted in 1995 and quickly became one of the foremost competitions in action sports. In 1997 the competition grew to include the Winter X Games, which continues to draw some of the biggest names in snowboarding, skiing and snowmobile. The X Games franchise has continued to grow over the years and now includes an international audience and international competitions. The X Games has been held in locations around the world including China, Dubai, Brazil, and Thailand. The X Games first visited Mexico in September of 2007, to an overwhelmingly welcoming crowd.

Back to Mexico

The X Games returned to Mexico for its second year. The X Games Mexico (also referred to as X Mex) took place on September 20-21 in Mexico City. Some of the best athletes in the world showed up to compete in Skateboard Street, BMX Street, MotoX Best Trick, and MotoX Step Up. Three new events debuted for the second year in Mexico: Moto X Best Whip and MotoX Freestyle. While the Americans ultimately swept the podium on all of the final competitions, there were a variety of athletes on hand to represent their country and their sports.

BMX Action

One of the tightest battles of the competition was in BMX Street, where there was a monumental battle for the gold. With Sean Sexton and Garrett Reynolds turning out tricks the score came down to a tie at 91.0 points before Sexton managed to grab the gold. Both Sexton and Reynolds are medalists from X Games 14. The bronze went to Aaron Ross, the 2007 silver medalist at the Mexican X Games.

MotoX

The X Games brought back the action of the favorite MotoX competitions along with two new events. One of the new competitions, MotoX Best Whip, offered a new way for fans to get involved. The winner of the competition was chosen by the text message voting of fans.

Skateboard

The skateboard comp was just as exciting as Greg Lutska pulled a trick on just about every aspect of the course to defend his 2007 X Games Mexico gold medal. Fourteen-year old CHaz Ortiz took home the silver in his first ever X Games.
