The AST Dew Tour has become a highly respected and anticipated yearly event. Now organizers are looking to do the same for the world of winter sports.
The AST Dew Tour, which debuted in 2005 as the first action sports tour, has come a long way in four years. It has become one of the premier action sports competitions in the world and has showcased the best athletes in the world. Now, the AST Dew Tour is set to take on winter sports with the AST Winter Dew Tour, which will debut in 2008. Same Great Action, Different Dress CodeBoth athletes and fans enthusiastically welcomed news of the AST Winter Dew Tour. The tour will feature the top athletes in the world of winter sports competing for a $1.5 million prize purse. The winter tour will operate in a similar manner as the AST Dew Tour, with athletes competing in a series of events (in this case, three) for individual wins and accumulating points for an ultimate winner in each discipline. The 1st place prize at each stop will be $15,000. The Events and CompetitorsFor the inaugural season the competitions will include men’s and women’s snowboarding (slopestyle and superpipe), and men’s freeskiing (slopestyle and superpipe). Among the athletes rumored to be competing are Hannah Teeter, Kelly Clark, Simon Dumont, Kevin Pearce and Andy Finch. The LocationsThe 2008 AST Winter Dew Tour will take place in Colorado, Vermont and California. Vermont, the only eastern U.S. stop for the tour, hosted the X Games in 2000 and 2001. Sponsors are still being lined up but it seems certain that Toyota will sponsor the third stop. The AST Winter Dew Tour will offer the same festival-like atmosphere as the summer tour with live concerts and events at each stop. Live coverage of the tour will be provided by NBC with additional coverage on USA, MTV and MTV2. The schedule for the 2008 AST Winter Dew Tour: December 18-21 in Breckenridge, CO January 8-11 in Mount Snow, VT February 19-22 in Northstar-at-Tahoe, CA For more up to date information, be sure to check out the AST Dew Tour website . At the end of the season the competitor who has accumulated the most points in each of the six disciplines are awarded the prestigious Dew Cup.
