Bob Burnquist Mega Ramp

Skateboarding's First Permanent, Residential Mega Ramp

Nov 3, 2006 Jodi Gallegos

The mind of Bob Burnquist is ripe with ideas. His latest project is a backyard Mega ramp outside of his California home

What does a guy do for fun once he's jumped his skateboard into the Grand Canyon? If you're Bob Burnquist, you build a Mega ramp in your back yard.

Bob Burnquist, an innovative and respected skateboarder has built a Mega ramp behind his California home. The ramp is longer than a football field. Burnquist drops in from a height of 75 feet, gains speed until he reaches approximately 55 miles per hour and jumps across a span of 70 feet (trapeze netting is in place under the jump for safety). In addition to being well respected as a vert skateboarder, Burnquist has proven that he isn't afraid to push the limits of his sport. He pulled off an amazing and widely discussed jump in March '06. From the top of a canyon, Burnquist dropped into a 40-foot ramp, landed his board and slid along a 40-foot rail that ended in a 1,600 foot drop (BASE jump) into the Grand Canyon.

Bob Burnquist was born and raised in Brazil. He has proven himself to be one of the most innovative skateboarders in history. In addition to the top finishes in the X Games and Dew Action Sports Tour, Burnquist has received a number of awards and accolades from fans, his peers and the sporting community. Burnquist lives in California with his partner, pro skateboarder Jen O'Brien and their daughter Lotus.
