Maloof Money Cup 2009 – Skateboarding ContestCommitted skateboarders gave it all for big tricks and big money
This year's second annual Maloof Money Cup was a three day long, five competition event showcasing today's finest skateboarders (pro and am) competing for the prize
Costa Mesa, California was the location where some truly awe-inspiring skateboarding went down. The three day event spanning July 10th - 12th was created by brothers Joe and Gavin Maloof, whose family owns the Sacramento Kings basketball team as well as the Palms Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Skateboarding's Largest EventNot only was the event in question possibly the biggest skateboarding competition in history but, the Money Cup also boasted the biggest purse in skateboarding history: $450,000 in prize money (almost a half million dollars here folks). The competition consisted of five main events. Zoo York U.S. Pro Street Championships Arguably the most popular event of the show. After the first few preliminary rounds, the event wound down to into two sections each with six skaters, two 9-minute heats per section. Section 1

Pro Street Results
Chris Cole deservingly took first place earning himself a cool $100,000. Cole is without question one of the most technical skaters out there today. Cole also ranked first place recently in Thrasher Magazine's Wallenberg contest, and was made pro skateboarder of the year in Thrasher Magazine. U.S. Women's Pro Street ChampionshipsWomen's Finalists
16 year old Leticia Bufoney won gold for overall best in Women's Pro Street Championships earning herself $25,000 in prize money. Carl's Jr. U.S. Pro Vert Championships Results
18 years young, Alex Perelson took first place earning himself a $75,000 prize. During the contest, Perelson spun a 900 - the fourth ever in history. Tech Deck Best trick Event During this event all pros were invited to enter the 20 minute long best trick contest. The best trick wasn't awarded based on single outstanding trick, but to the skater who performed the best and most overall tricks. Judges were having such a tough time choosing a worthy athlete, that after the twenty minute mark was up, judges requested an additional 5 minutes to ultimately decide who best deserved the award -- a crystal clear indication that all participating skaters were ripping. What proved to be a tough call, Adam Dyet was deemed winner. Dyet was in it for the long haul landing a barrage of rapid fire tricks including a switch backside heelflip down the four-block and kickflip backside tailslide down the big rail. World Industries Amateur ChampionshipsAn event which inevitably took the backseat to the pro events, but was not necessarily overlooked or marginalized. Some of these kids are on the up and up in the skateboarding industry and a contest of this caliber is a surefire way to get recognition. Results
Brazil's own Felipe Gustavo had his eye on the prize and won first place in the am street event. Wrapping Up Maloof Money Cup 2009In today's world the words skateboarding and contest go together like white on rice, but never has a single event been turned into such a grandiose spectacle. With over 100 professional and amateur skateboarders having competed in the event and over 20,000 spectators, it's no wonder that 2009's Maloof Money Cup was deemed the biggest contest in history, not to mention the massive $450,000 purse.
