For ten years Ricky Carmichael has dominated the world of motocross/supercross. Now, with his retirement from the sport, Carmichael eyes a new career.

Motocross and Supercross legend, Ricky Carmichael has retired from the sport at the ripe old age of 27. Widely regarded as one of the most dominant riders in motocross, Carmichael raced in his final professional race in Florida on March 17, 2007.

Ricky Carmichael began riding motorcycles at the age of three. At the age of 16, he made his pro racing debut at the last race of the 1996 season, finishing in eighth place. In 1997 he earned the Rookie of the Year honor in the 125cc class.

Although he wasn't regarded as a "natural" rider, Carmichael dedicated himself to training. The training paid off as Carmichael is now recognized as the most successful AMA Supercross/Motocross rider in the business.

In addition to Carmichael's many titles and championship wins, he has the distinction of having recorded the first ever perfect season during the 2002 250cc National Championship, a feat he repeated in 2004. He also holds the all-time record for AMA championships and wins.

Carmichael's career ended after the Amp'd Mobile AMA Supercross Series at Orlando's Citrus Bowl. After a 20 lap battle, James Stewart claimed the win, leaving Carmichael to finish his career with a second-place finish.

Although Ricky Carmichael has retired from Motocross, he isn't about to sit around and enjoy the life of a retiree. Carmichael is embarking on his new career in stock car racing. He has always made it known that he had an interest in pursuing his NASCAR dream. He entered into a developmental contract with Ginn Racing/MB2 Motorsports. The deal includes plans for Carmichael to be entered in a NASCAR Busch Series car during the 2008 season. There is also talk that Carmichael may drive in the Craftsman Truck Series in late 2007.

So what does the future hold for Carmichael in his new career? If you consider the way he has dominated motocross for the past ten years, Carmichael may prove to be a strong contender in his new career.
