A look at a few of the highly anticipated action sports competitors of the year

Athletes typically generate quite a buzz. Especially as we look forward to the year ahead and speculate about who will stand out. In action sports, fans have a lot to look forward to. Some of the most amazing feats are being done in their favorite sports. Only in the action sports world will you find athletes going airborne and doing (sometimes multiple) flips while attached to a bike or motorcycle.

Action sports fans are as loyal to their favorite athletes as traditional sports fans. Here is a look at some of the athletes that are already generating a buzz for the summer 2007 season.

Shaun White- Whether it's snowboarding or skateboarding, we just can't help but watch White. Even though he's had some disappointing seasons we still believe that any minute he's going to bust out some great trick. Will White pull the 1080° in a skateboard competition this year?

Dave Mirra- Just before the 2006 summer X Games, Mirra suffered an injury while practicing for the BMX Park competition. Due to a lacerated liver, Mirra was forced to withdraw from the X Games. It was the only time in X Games history that Mirra wasn't a competitor. Now fans are asking, "Will he be back?" Or, at 33 years old, is Mirra getting too old to compete at the level he's known for?

Bob Burnquist- The Zen Master of the Mega Ramp? As the owner of the only residential Mega Ramp does Burnquist have an advantage over the rest of the Big Air competitors?

Nyjah Houston- The youngest competitor on the pro skateboarding circuit, Houston remains a popular figure, even though he hasn't been able to rise above the pack. Yet.

Travis Pastrana- MotoX, SuperMoto and Rally Car. And let us not forget the double back flip in the 2006 X Games MotoX Best Trick competition. How will Pastrana follow up his phenomenal 2006 season? Will he be able to match that success in 2007? He has vowed to never repeat the double back flip leaving many to wonder how he'll be able to stay at the head of the pack and what other tricks he may have up his sleeve.

These are just a few of the top names in action sports who we are anxiously watching this year. Of course, at any time, any athlete can rise up and claim the attention of the fans and the world. Who will rise to the top in 2007?
