Winter X Games 11 has come and gone. This year brought several new events as well as some amazing upsets. Athletes and spectators alike were treated to some warm weather (mixed in with some unbearably cold periods!) and all the fun that comes when the X Games rolls into town.
Twenty-five Olympic athletes from the Torino Olympics participated in Winter X Games 11 this year.
In snowboarding all eyes seemed to be on Shaun White. But Steve Fisher pulled back-to-back 900's and a 700 to deny White what would have been his seventh Winter X Games gold. White walked away from the weekend with silver and a bronze. Snowboard Best Trick Showdown debuted this year with Andreas Wiig pulling a frontside 1080 with a frontside grab to take the gold. In the womens arena 16-year old Jamie Anderson became the youngest gold medalist in the history of Winter X Games when she nabbed the gold in Slopestyle.
Mono Skier X debuted while a solid crowd gathered at the base of the run to watch the athletes. Gold Medal winner Tyler Walker was quoted describing Mono Skier X as being "in a car doing a buck twenty on a road made for thirty, and you've got a safety belt but no airbag". From the gasps in the crowd as athletes flew over the last kicker-- that seems to be a fair assessment.
There was a major sweep in women's skiing as the French took home all three medals in Skier X.
