You've decided on the kind of riding you want to do, the bike you'll need, and the equipment to go with it. Now you need a checklist to keep you focused as you shop

For the past few weeks, I've covered the various points you need to know about buying a BMX bike. If you've read the articles on equipment,

BMX race and freestyle bikes and

bike shop vs. department store bikes, you have a good base of knowledge to begin your bike search.

Before you go to buy a bike, you may want to pick 2-3 dealers and do some comparison shopping. You'll have a better idea of what is available and which dealers you feel most confident buying from. Be sure that you visit only established dealers. You want the shop to be there in a year if you have to come back on a warranty issue!

As an added resource, you can read and print the BMX Buyer's Checklist to take with you as you shop. It will focus your bicycle search and help you pick the right bike to fit your needs.

If you are buying the bike as a gift, it is best to take the recipient with you. That way you get the proper size and you'll be sure the perfect bike was picked.
