Some people consider BASE jumping to be one of the most extreme sports imaginable. The surge of extreme sports in the 1990's led to an increased awareness of the sport. While some people viewed BASE jumping as one more crazy pursuit, others saw opportunity and adventure. For many, it isn't just about the jump but also the journey to it. Some people travel the world looking for the most amazing jumps available.
Jumpers consistently push the limits of acrobatics and elevation. Just over a month ago, on May 23 Glenn Singelman and Heather Swan jumped from highest recorded starting elevation. Meru Peak in Northern India rises to 21,667 feet.
BASE jumping isn't just about the adrenaline rush or tempting fate either. Okay, some people are into that, but not everyone! Troy Hartman says, "I don't have a desire to flirt with death, I just enjoy the feeling of the jump."
Who hasn't looked over the edge of a cliff or the top of a building and had the urge to lean over just a little further? Would it really be such a big step to strap on a chute and go for it?
And speaking of Troy, check out his website and watch the videos of some of the crazy stuff this dude has pulled off! Thanks, Troy!
