Finally...Primal Quest Utah is going to be televised!
I know, I was there and it was an awesome experience. But, the fact is that Primal Quest happens on such an enormous scale that I only saw a sliver of the total activity. I can't wait to see everything I missed.
I also feel compelled to make sure that the cinematography does justice to the heat that everyone was up against. Remember, it was late June in Moab; 100° was considered relief from the heat! Imagine trying to cover over 450 miles while hiking, biking, climbing, etc. with nothing but a compass and a topographical map to guide you. And doing it in that kind of heat!
Here are two interesting facts at the ESPN Outdoors site: 1.) Racing in Primal Quest is the equivalent to running 17 New York Marathons. 2.) The average weight loss for competitors during Primal Quest was 5.6 pounds.
Be sure to tune in. Primal Quest Utah, the 2006 expedition-length race will be aired beginning on October 7, at 7:30 pm. ESPN and ABC will be televising the race. Coverage of the four day race will be shown over four consecutive nights with the finale airing on ABC on Oct. 14 at 2:00 pm.
