» Feature Writer Kelby Carr - So fun to see in person

We went to an X-games competition a couple years ago, and what a blast to watch this stuff! The skateboarding was especially cool (and a bit of a flashback for me to my middle/high school days when skateboarding was so in).

Anyone who hasn't been... it is so much more exciting in person than it is on TV.

I bet that would be such a trip to see in person. I've seen a lot of x-games videoss and they really get your blood revved up...esp with the cool music they choose....it's hard to believe people can do such hard tricks and are willing to get so beat up while practicing. happy

It's absolutely amazing what those guys (and girls!) can do. I think the whole X Game/Action Sports Tour thing has an excellent vibe. Great music, enthusiastic people and crazy action. If you can't make it but are interested in what's out there you can also check out some videos on the internet. There are people who post their own videos and some of the stuff they are doing is awesome. If nothing else is going on, you can always go hang out and watch the kids at the local skate/bike parks. They might enjoy the audience and who knows...you may have the next Ryan Sheckler or TJ Lavin living right in your neighborhood.

The big skateboarding heyday hit when I was in middle school, and I remember watching the guys skate just on a half-pipe in my neighborhood. I actually thought it would be cool to do it myself, but let's just say that would have been ugly. Coordination is NOT my strong suit.

We'd bring a boom box and play Violent Femmes. Hahah! I'm dating myself, and badly...

Kelby I remember the skater craze when I was a kid too. Nobody in our neighborhood had a half-pipe though. Any building with stairs and railings was a huge draw! Even that drove the adults crazy. None of them ever thought to set up a place for kids to go

Now I see skate ramps in parks and dirt jumps in front yards for the BMX riders. Maybe the adults these days (us!) are just cooler
