The X Games are over. We definitly saw some of the biggest tricks and most amazing wins in X Games history. Here are highlights and results from the X Games XII.
X Games XII provided fans with amazing action and some of the biggest tricks ever pulled in action sports history. Extreme sports fans gathered in LA from August 3-6 for the 12th installment of the X Games.
Two new events debuted this year; BMX Big Air and Rally Car. In addition to the excitement of the new events, anticipation was high for the big tricks that were rumored to be attempted.
Travis Pastrana satisfied the speculation when, on his second run in MotoX Best Trick, he pulled the first ever double back flip in competition history. As amazing as it turned out, Travis said "I hope I never have to do it again." He wasn't talking about winning the gold though, Travis went on to compete in three more events (SuperMoto, MotoX Freestyle, and Rally Car) and win two more gold medals.
Shaun White was also under a lot of speculation. The US Olympic Gold Medalist had already pulled a 1080° on snowboard and everyone was eager to see if he would be able to duplicate it on skateboard. During the Skateboard Best Trick competition, Shaun made 18 attempts at the 1080 (three complete rotations), coming so close but couldn't quite finish it off. Shaun deserves major respect for the level of determination he showed.

You have to love 45 year old Jeff Ward winning gold in SuperMoto. At least it makes me feel better. I hope you can cover some of the Red Bull events for extreme snow machines.

It was an amazing finish. Mark Burkhart was practically riding Jeff Ward's rear tire to the finish. I think it's awesome that the X Games has such a wide age range for competitors (and medalists!).
Is the Red Bull Fuel and Fury the event you were thinking of? The '06 event was in April. I'll be watching for it in '07 though. I think some of the '06 videos are still up on the website.

I don't keep up on it as I should. Jay Quinlan is a Valdez boy and brother of a friend. Got to like anyone that can backflip a snow machine. He's broken a lot of parts...

That was the Red Bull Fuel and Fury. Jay got the $1,000 prize for worst wreck. That's a hard way to earn a living!
Most of the guys (and girls) who do stunt have had so many broken body parts they hardly even notice the "little" injuries anymore. I know people who are convinced that given enough time and Tylenol, they can "walk off" an ankle fracture.

I saw some video from when Jay was learning to pull off the backflip. Several times he fell straight down out of the top of the loop. It broke him and the machine several times before he figured out how to do it. We had the outdoor editor of the Anchorage Daily News comment on the industries lack of medical support for these guys. The feeling was the sponsors could do more for injured riders and the huge hospital bills.

I'm not sure what the liability limits are for the sponsors. I would assume the competitors to any "risky" competition sign a liability waiver. I would guess that basic medical and life insurance coverage gets tricky. Especially when you list an action sport as your career.

Thanks, Jill! And when you do a backflip in your kayak, I want to be the 1st one there! Come one...I'm sure it can be done.

Alan- I think I saw your friend, Jay the other night on Stunt Junkies! He was trying to do a barrell roll on his snowmobile. His name was Jay, he was in Alaska, and, I missed the 1st few minutes but they kept referring to when he was trying to pull the backflip! (Oh, and he was wearing a Red Bull hat) The entire time I was watching, I was sure it was your guy!
